You know what I wish? That the FAFSA would take into consideration the amount of money that parents spend on remedial education, therapies, etc. when determining need for student funding. That there were more scholarships for the disabled – as it stands right now, there are about two dozen. Yeah, you heard that right. The blind and deaf get about 75% of them.

Now, since my husband is retired, you would think that Bug would be entitled to a lot of $$. Nope. And just because my hEx still lives, his income may be taken into consideration at some schools – not that we’d ever SEE any of it, mind you. I asked him to chip in three ways with $100 for Bug’s class ring last spring. I am still waiting for it. Cheap ass. He never did a thing for his older children from his first marriage, and I don’t expect anything for Bug, either. It’s time for the colleges to get off the divorce horse, the glue factory is waiting.

We only wish that the school where Hub used to teach had programs for Bug, or majors that he wants, because he would have free tuition. But, among the fact that they have no services to begin with, their director of services is a total asshole. I guess, with a free or a state education, you get what you pay for. When I told my son’s principal and teachers the quote about “getting in line”, their jaws dropped. And one of them worked with him, she had been impressed – up until then, anyway.

The fact that SATs are starting to not be considered as heavily among schools not in the Top 10-20-30 or thereabouts are also indicative of the need of the middle and lower class families. Kids who come from school districts that suck don’t get the same education that higher level school districts give. So test scores no longer equal money. That can be a good thing – good scholars are many times not given the appropriate education to their needs. And I now notice on a lot of scholarship and grant apps that they only require a GPA of 2.5….

And what’s Mr. Obama done? Nuttin, honey. Raised Pell Grants. Well, middle class people don’t QUALIFY for Pell Grants. Neither do many Retirees – just because they get a pension, that means they can afford a college tuition, didn’t you know that?

I guess the only way to get the $$ is to work for ourselves and write our Schedule Cs into the red so far it hits China. Hey, maybe we could afford college THERE….
